Reuse of ancient megalithics monuments during Metal Ages: the dolmen of Serrinha (Monforte, Portugal).

    Get PDF
The set of funerary megalithic monuments in the Alentejo region (Portugal) presents a great variety in its architectures, but also in their uses and reuses. Although often undocumented (in the case of ancient excavations), the collections in the Museums prove their use between the Neolithic Age and at least the Iron Age. The Dolmen of Serrinha (Monforte) recently excavated by the signatories, is a good example of the reuse of necropolis spaces during Metal Ages

Carta Arqueológica de Monforte: primeiros dados

    Get PDF

Investigação no âmbito do Dootoramento em Educação, especialidade de Educação a Distância e eLearningThe main objective of this PhD research is to identify and understand the education and research practices of teachers/researchers of public Higher Education Institutions (HEI) in Portugal, as well as the influence of recommendations, initiatives and public support in the development of open educational practices. To contextualize the problem, the study involves three levels of analysis: i) macro level, in terms of guidelines on open education and open access, both at European and national levels, as well as the strategies aligned with these guidelines; ii) mezzo level, regarding public HEI in Portugal, characterizing their openness degree and support of open practices development; iii) micro level, focusing on the practices of teachers/researchers in their academic context, when playing the dual role in research and education.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

A contribution to the study of the process of content curation as an emergent skill for personal knowledge management

Investigação realizada no mestrado em Pedagogia do eLearningCurating is a demanding task which involves a coordinated set of multidisciplinary skills along with the use of proper curation Web tools, the most important attribute of a curator is subject matter expertise, something already acquired by academics (Good, 2010). Curation may also endow a practitioner with the necessary experience and familiarity with a specific topic. In this study we utilized Kanter’s tripartite framework for content curation: “seek, sense, share” (2011b) an adapted model of personal knowledge management by Jarche (2010). “Seeking” is the process of keeping up to date in one’s field; “sensing” is making sense of information by placing it into context; “sharing” is the process of exchanging resources, ideas and experiences with networks and collaborating with colleagues.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Arbutus unedo L.: From traditional medicine to potential uses in modern pharmacotherapy

Ethnopharmacological relevance: Arbutus unedo L., the strawberry tree (Ericaceae family) is of increasing interest because of its common traditional, industrial, chemical and pharmaceutical uses. The plant is a typical evergreen plant of the Mediterranean basin, as well as of other regions with hot summers and mild rainy winters. This review covers the studies relevant to Arbutus unedo L. utilization in the current pharmacological therapy. Materials and methods: The available information on traditional uses, phytochemistry and biological activities of Arbutus unedo L. was collected from scientific databases through a search using the keywords 'Arbutus unedo L.' and/or 'strawberry tree' in 'Google Scholar', 'Pubmed', 'Sciencedirect', 'SpringerLink', 'Web of Science - Clarivate Analytics' and 'Wiley'. Unpublished Ph.D. and M.Sc. dissertations were also consulted for chemical composition, biological activities and traditional uses of Arbutus unedo L. and for manual search of additional references. Results: The fruits of the plant have been traditionally used as antiseptics, diuretics and laxatives in folk medicine, while the leaves have been used due to their diuretic, urinary antiseptic, antidiarrheal, astringent, depurative and antihypertensive properties. According to the scientific literature survey, different extracts obtained from Arbutus unedo L. have demonstrated a high pharmacological potential due to their in vitro and preclinical antibiotic, antifungal, antiparasitic, antiaggregant, antidiabetic, antihypertensive, anti-inflammatory, antitumoral, antioxidant, and spasmolytic properties. Conclusion: This review suggests that A. unedo is a promising source of phytopharmaceutical products. The potential advantages of Arbutus unedo are related with the presence of polyphenolic compounds in its composition. However, further studies are needed to ascertain some profitable effects in humans. The beneficial effects associated with this shrub suggest that Arbutus unedo can be used for the development of new drugs to treat diseases such diabetes, hypertension, among others. Nonetheless, the safety of the Arbutus unedo compounds should also be examined

Comunicação apresentada em EDEN 2015 Annual Conference, Expanding Learning Scenarios, Barcelona. The present paper is part of a PhD research, which is being developed in the scope of the Doctoral Programme in Education, specialisation in Distance Education and eLearning at Universidade Aberta, the Portuguese Open University. The theoretical framework for the research is Open Education, particularly the specific fields of Open Educational Resources (OER) and Open Access (OA). The main objective of the research is to identify and understand the awareness, knowledge and attitudes of scholars in Portuguese public Higher Education Institutions (HEI), regarding OER and OA and, in particular, to compare scholars’ awareness, attitudes and perceptions towards OER and OA in the context of their teaching and research practices. This will also allow us to represent the Portuguese reality and, consequently, position the Portuguese public higher education practices within the global panorama and also may be able to inform future decisions, whether institutionally, governmentally or even within a broader perspective. The current paper intends to present the research project and also to reflect the literature review carried out so far, in order to contextualise the research problem and also to describe the methodological procedures defined for the study

Estratégias de sobrevivência Shonghay-Zarma (Níger): Trajectórias económicas de uma outra modernidade

    Get PDF
